Mixing

Balance, depth and movement for your track — mixed in our control room with 2 revision rounds so your notes are acted on, not filed away.

Hands on the faders of the mixing console

Mixing is listening on purpose: which element carries the story, which frequency can breathe, where energy sags between chorus and bridge. At Neustonorix in Amsterdam, Femke van der Meulen and the team work on your track in the 22 m² control room on monitors we know, with headphone checks before we call a version done.

You send stems or a session from your home studio, our band session or vocal session. Never recorded here? Fine — as long as files are labelled and aligned. Read guide stems for mixing before export; delivery questions: contact, reply within 2 business days.

Workflow

  1. 01

    Delivery

ZIP with stems (24-bit WAV), tempo, references and notes. We confirm rate: €235 per track or €520 for up to five tracks.

  2. 02

    First mix

Balance, EQ, dynamics, space. First version usually within a few business days after complete delivery.

  3. 03

    Revisions

Up to 2 rounds with bundled feedback by email. No scattered chat snippets that contradict each other.

  4. 04

    Final

Final mix as WAV (optional instrumental). Ready for mastering; formats in master delivery formats guide.

Who it is for and which projects

Mixing targets finished recordings: singles heading to release, five-track EPs, bands wanting a coherent sound after a studio day, producers who comp themselves but hand off the final balance. Podcast or audiobook work sits outside this price list — see podcast and audiobook.

Only vocals and a beat from music production? We mix that too when tracks are technically solid. We do not treat live concert recordings with crowd noise as the main use case; discuss edge cases in writing upfront.

Stems, sessions and naming

Ideal: mono or stereo WAV stems, all starting at sample 0, same sample rate (48 kHz preferred). Names like Kick_In, Snare_Top, Bass_DI, Gtr_L_R — not Track_01_final_FINAL2.

  • Export without master bus processing on individual tracks unless intentional
  • Include a rough mix or reference MP3 for intent
  • Note BPM, key and sections where automations matter
  • Zip per song; EPs may use one archive with folders per track

Workflow in the control room

We work in Pro Tools with outboard where it adds musicality — drum compression, analogue colour on buses — and in the box where flexibility wins. No preset massacre: every track gets a fresh start. Vocals get space without masking; low end is checked on small speakers and full-range monitors.

During the mix we log decisions (for example "delay throw only in bridge"). Revisions stay focused instead of resetting everything.

Revisions and feedback

2 revision rounds after the first mix are included. Bundle notes in one email: timestamp or section, what you want louder, softer or warmer. Messages spread across days count as multiple rounds and may incur extra fees.

If you are still unsatisfied after two rounds, we schedule a short call or a paid extra round — agreed upfront. Major changes (re-recording vocals) are new material, not a revision — record again or send new stems.

Delivery, loudness and mastering

You receive a final mix WAV (24 bit) and an instrumental without lead vocals on request. We do not master to streaming loudness targets by default — that is mastering. We do leave headroom so mastering is not a fight.

Want to continue immediately? Mastering is separate (€72 per track). Read master delivery formats for DDP, vinyl pre-master and streaming specs. Files via secure link; 12 months storage at Neustonorix B.V..

Rates and EP package

Mixing rates

What the mix fee excludes

Editing timing, tuning entire passages, restoring bad recordings, recording extra instruments or remixing into another genre sits outside standard mixing. Rush within 24 hours without prior booking is not guaranteed.

Pitch correction on request as extra work; better takes from the booth are preferable. Sample clearance and beat rights remain your responsibility — we deliver mixed audio to your brief.

FAQ

How fast is the first mix?

With complete stems and clear references, usually within a few business days. Busy periods or five-track EPs get a longer date at confirmation.

Can my track already have bus processing?

Prefer dry stems. Bus compression makes revisions harder. Send dry and processed variants with clear labels if needed.

What counts as a revision round?

One bundled email with all changes after a mix version. 2 such rounds are included; scattered messages may become extra rounds.

Do you mix in Atmos or stereo only?

We deliver stereo WAV for streaming and download by default. Other formats are agreed upfront; not included in €235 unless quoted.

Can you master afterward?

Yes. Mastering is separate (€72 per track). Our mix headroom fits that workflow; see master formats.
