Podcast and audiobook

Spoken word needs quiet acoustics, stable levels and editing that keeps your meaning—or tightens pacing without audible jumps.

Two podcast hosts talking at table microphones

A podcast recorded in a reflective room, or an audiobook ruined by traffic noise, loses listeners faster than you expect. In our 8 m² booth and with dialogue mics at the table we prioritise voices: Lars Bakker guides recording and basic editing so you can focus on content.

Podcast and audiobook at Neustonorix serves creators, publishers and companies that want a professional voice without spending evenings on DAW details. Come alone, with a co-host or with a remote guest on a line we test beforehand. Rates are clear: studio hours for capture, or a fixed price per finished hour for audiobooks.

Workflow

  1. 01

    Brief

Send script or outline, target platform, loudness spec and deadline. We reply within 2 business days with a plan and quote.

  2. 02

    Recording

In booth or at the table, with headphone mix and breaks when you need them. Remote guests are recorded on a separate feed we align in post.

  3. 03

    Editing

Cuts on breath, false starts removed, light noise reduction and EQ where needed. No heavy ‘radio compression’ unless you ask for it.

  4. 04

    Export

File to your platform or publisher—mono/stereo, bit depth and loudness measured. Download link; archive kept 12 months.

Podcast versus audiobook

Podcasts often mean weekly episodes, informal tone and music between segments. Audiobooks need long sessions, chapter markers and stricter loudness rules from publishers. Both sit under Podcast and audiobook, but pricing differs.

Recording is billed at €78 per studio hour including engineer and monitoring. For audiobooks you can choose €195 per finished hour of listener time after editing—useful when you do not want to estimate raw recording hours yourself.

Platform and publisher specs

Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible or a Dutch publisher: each has guidelines for loudness, true peak and sometimes silence between chapters. Send the PDF or link; we measure the export and attach a short report.

Without a distributor yet, we align to common podcast norms so you do not re-export later. When unsure, browse guides or ask via FAQ.

Studio setup

Two hosts often share a table with boom mics and one headphone mix, similar to our reference photos. Solo work happens in the booth with pop filter and script stand. We have 6 headphone sends for larger panels—about four speakers at once is workable; more gets hard to follow for listeners.

Tram 1 to Surinameplein, then about four minutes on foot via Overtoom; bus 15 stops on Overtoom. Bike rack outside; on-street car parking nearby (paid, evening rate). Arrive with time to settle so you are not starting mid-sentence.

Remote guests and hybrid sessions

A guest in another city can join via voip or a studio link if you arrange the tech. We capture your voice cleanly in Amsterdam; ideally they record locally at the same quality. We can place both tracks in one project and sync on clap or timecode if you provide it.

Full remote production without hosts on site is outside our default workflow—we can still record voice-over for corporate video under vocal recording.

Editing: included and excluded

Standard editing covers:

  • Removing stumbles, coughs and false starts (on your mark)
  • Consistent levels between hosts
  • Segment fades where needed
  • Export in the requested format

Not included without extra quote: heavy sound design, composing jingles, full transcription or translation. Music must be properly licensed; we do not drop in stock tracks without proof.

2 revision rounds on the edit are included for audiobook packages; episodic podcast editing is agreed per episode.

Turnaround and scheduling

A single podcast episode with thirty to sixty minutes of raw audio usually fits one three- to four-hour block including setup. Audiobooks spread over several days to protect the voice—Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00, Saturday 10:00–18:00, by appointment only.

Editing typically takes two to three times raw recording time for audiobooks, depending on mistakes and desired tightness. We confirm a realistic delivery date before you pay the 25% deposit.

FAQ

How many studio hours do I need for a podcast?

Plan roughly one to one and a half recording hours per thirty minutes of air time if you have few retakes. First episodes take longer while you adjust to the mic.

Do you write show notes?

No, unless we quote that separately. We focus on audio; text and publishing stay with you or your agency.

Can I take raw WAV and edit myself?

Yes. You then pay only €78 for capture. Ask for raw multitrack if you want hosts on separate tracks.

What if my guest is ill?

Reschedule free up to 5 days ahead. Inside that window the deposit may apply unless we refill the slot—see terms and conditions.

Do you shoot video podcasts?

We deliver audio. On-location video is outside our services; you can sync our audio to your own footage.
